Real, solid wood furniture finished to last
How we finish our furniture
At Pastos Co we build in solid, sustainably-sourced softwood pine. As we explain in our blog: although it’s “softwood”, that doesn’t mean it is weak – when properly kiln-dried, planed and joined, pine is strong, stable and allows for excellent finishing.
We apply the colour finish during the furniture’s construction process so that the finish is part of the piece, not just a surface treatment afterwards. This integration means better adhesion, improved durability, and a wholly finished look from day one.
Our finishing process
We choose joinery-grade pine, straight-grained and slow-grown, from sustainably managed forests.
Each board is kiln-dried to the ideal indoor humidity level, planed all around, and prepared by hand before being cut and joined.
We apply a water-based stain and varnish during the build, allowing the timber to breathe while protecting from spills, stains and general wear.
Because pine takes the stain beautifully, we’re able to offer a wide palette of finishes, enabling you to match existing furniture or choose a tone that suits your space.
See the Colours Exactly as They Are
Lighting changes everything, what looks warm in a photo might feel different in your home. Our sample pack gives you real wood swatches finished by hand, so you can compare tones, textures, and grain in your actual room. No guesswork, no surprises, just confidence in the finish you choose.
The finishes available
Below are the finishes we currently offer. Each option is applied at build-time to our solid wood furniture so that the finish is integral, immediate and built to last.
Clear Coat
A transparent finish that shows the natural pale pine tone and grain. Ideal if you like the wood’s original look.

Choosing the right finish for your space
Light & airy rooms: Clear Coat or Natural Oak will keep the look open and bright.
Traditional or dining spaces: English Oak, Dark Oak or Jacobean Oak add warmth and formality.
Modern or contrast-rich interiors: Walnut, Rosewood or Black Black bring deeper tone and richness.
Rustic/industrial aesthetics: Distressed Black gives character and texture.
Matching existing furniture: Because we use pine (which takes stain more evenly than many hardwoods) we can better match or complement your current pieces.
